if you scuff up the oil layer and apply the kilz this will act as a barrier separating the two products from each other, so long as the oil paint is dry. when wet they will separate
I have been a paint department manager for many years. This is I have learned over the years. You can paint over an oil based primer with a latex paint. You can not paint over an oil based paint with a latex paint. Go Figure, I can't remember the reason why, sorry. And you can paint over an oil based paint with latex paint if you sand the surface first. If you want more information, go to Kilz.com. or call 1-866-Primer-1. That is Kilz Primer's question hot-line. Byee
doesn't matter with Kiltz . It to seal any surface so your paint don't soak right thru!
You can. I do it all the time with no problems. Things-products change for the better.
escruggs is right. i only use oil based primer, it bonds better. you have to wait a bit longer for it to dry before you can put the top coat on, but it will stick to the surface better. good luck.
Yes, you CAN paint over oil based paints with latex. It's the other way around that causes all the problems. Never paint oil based over latex.
