Should i put kilz on a cast iron bathtub before I paint it?

Yes, but don't use the paint on kind use the spray paint kind. The kilz that paints on by brush does not give you a smooth finish to work with and you will see every brush stroke, sand until your fingers don't work and find yourself frustrated. You can also use a metal primer by Rustoleum if rust is an issue.

If you do not prime it, you will be unhappy with the results particularly because you are painting metal that is going to be in high humidity and in a water application. Also, be certain to use a paint that is rated for metal.Should i put kilz on a cast iron bathtub before I paint it?

Don't use KIL on cast iron. Go to a paint store and tell them what you wish to paint and they can help. You most likely will need a special primer and then the finish coat.
